Bengal-on-sea

Despite the vast network Indian trains are remarkably organised, efficient and good value for money...

(...You can even book your tickets 90 days in advance...)

This however means that the majority of trains get booked up proper sharpish...

(This can be somewhat problematic for impulsive and flexible travel (...and might be why I found myself on the floor of the overnight express to Visakhapatnam). (...the good guys at India Rail gladly overbook trains and allow you to use these waiting list tickets at your peril).

Come 5am I was thankfully relieved from my awkward position by the toilet by a (sympathetic) ticket inspector who took pity on me and showed me to a recently vacated berth).

...After a couple hours shut eye I was raring to hit the town.

On the surface "Vie-Zag" was a pretty average, well off city with all the usual coffee shops and AC Malls.

Its beach front (however) was like the Indian Version of a rubbish (but Kitschy in an ace way) seaside resort.

(Think Indian families, rusty rides, ice cream and weird park sculptures)...

Proper Hindi-come-Blackpool style entertainings
