No trip to Kerela is complete without a trip down its fabled backwaters...
Alleppey (or occasionally Alappuzha) was our jumping off point, and our Canoe Man- Come Guide was Pushparaj.
An early riser, Pushparaj assured us the best time to see the villagers in action was first thing...
We hit the waters around 6.30am and crept along the main canal ways and across a lake (just in time for a rather spectacular sunrise).
Later we joined the smaller network of canals where we would occasionally disembark to reciprocate gawking stares with villagers.
A very relaxing way to spend six hours.
