Stairway to Heaven

A disorientating maze of tight alleyways eventually give way to steps that lead into the Ganges river.

People bathe, wash clothes, and offer their recently deceased to the holy waters.

The religious revelry, grubby appearance and occasional burning body give Varanasi an atmosphere like no other.

Their was plenty to do here but I spent the majority of the time here exploring the intricate network of alleyways and walking along the long stretch of Ghats (all with some sort of story/specific purpose and occasionally adjourned with some impressive weather beaten palaces).

I cracked out the trusty iphone for the latest batch of photo fun.
